Part of Bronco’s philosophy has always been to give back to the community. And what better way to do that than to provide financial literacy to our next generation as they prepare for their future? That’s the idea behind the “Save, Spend, Share” program that Bronco Team Members are taking to local schools to teach students from 3 to 18 how to save for the future, pay themselves first and to share by giving back. Older students have also been learning about the real cost of credit and how it should not be used to live beyond their means. The program also talks to students about tips to help their parents save money during these uncertain financial times.
According to comments from educators within the schools where “Save, Spend, Share” has been introduced, the program is paying off well in the students’ understanding of personal finances:
“Melissa Boyce of the Bronco Marketing and Business Development Department of Bronco Federal Credit Union recently gave a most informative talk on financial literacy to my 8th grade students. She included in her presentation goal setting for the long and short term, building a budget and paying yourself first. She emphasized the importance of saving and using credit wisely. Every student would benefit from participating in her wonderful presentation. Thank you, Bronco, for giving back to the community.” —Beverly Brown, Forest Glen Middle School.
“On behalf of the Lakeland High School Career and Technical Education Department, I would like to thank Bronco for taking the time to come out and talk with our students about the importance of being financially literate. I loved the fact that Melissa shared a part of her personal life with the students to let them know that she is a real person who learned some financial lessons the hard way. My students definitely were able to see how the information they learned applies to real life. I will definitely be contacting you again in the future and look forward to continuing this partnership.” —DeShonna Johnson, Business and Information Technology Teacher, Lakeland High School.
“Melissa spoke to quite a few of our Career and Technical Education classes here at King’s Fork High. Her message not only included the significance of sound financial decision making, but appealed to the students’ interests. Her positive energy and ability to really reach out to students was quite evident. Students were actively involved in her presentation and gained valuable insight for choices they are making now and will need to make in the future.” —Leigh Parks, Business and Information Technology Teach, King’s Fork High School.
