On April 30, 2010, Bronco’s office at the International Paper Mill permanently closed its doors. For those of you who have become accustomed to visiting with Ruth Sheffiield, who has been the sole employee at Bronco’s mill office for many years, she has moved to the Second Avenue office in Franklin and is still available to take care of all your needs there.
In honor of Ruth’s long-time service, here are a few comments from mill employees who wanted to be sure that Ruth knows how much her service has meant over the years.
“For those of us who worked at International Paper in Franklin, Ruth Sheffield is the face of the credit union. Yes, the office at the mill was convenient, quick in-and-out and open when we needed it, but one of the most pleasant aspects of opening the door was Ruth. She is helpful, kind, knowledgeable, professional and she always makes people feel that she genuinely cares. Ruth’s presence has increased and retained BFCU members. She has been an invaluable asset to the mill and to Bronco, and I look forward to continuing my relationship with her, although in a different location. To many of us, the ‘face’ of the credit union will always be Ruth and her smile.”
—Stacy Dempsey, Finance, IP
“Ruth is always concerned about the people around her and she is always ready, willing and able to help someone. Ruth is my special friend and I love her dearly.”
—Bea Whitehead, Contracted Services, IP
“Ruth Sheffield was always willing to meet our work schedules, and always provided us with help on many loan options, saving and general information so we could make the best decisions about our finances. Some would say that’s what she was supposed to do. But she does it all with a smile and lets you know she wants to help you. As a BFCU member for over 30 years, I plan to continue to visit Ruth at the downtown location. Thanks, Ruth!”

“As we come to the end of the proud history of our mill, we remember fondly the friends and co-workers we spent so many of our waking hours with, who made such a profound difference in our lives and futures and in those of our families. They were—and are—diverse, hard-working, intelligent, resourceful, good-natured, fun-loving folks who would go out of their way to help a co-worker, and they made the mill the success that it was. One of the important resources we had at the mill is Bronco Federal Credit Union and the staff of hard-working, diligent folks who helped us use our money wisely to provide for our families. For the last 22 years, we have been privileged to have at the mill site a lady who, in every sense of the word, thinks of us as family. Ruth Sheffield has been driving, rain or shine, from Dendron every day to serve our BFCU needs at the mill—from new accounts to loans to credit cards, and to lend an ear or a word of encouragement when needed. With a quick smile and wit, she knows many of our account numbers by heart, knows the names of our wives, kids and grandkids, knows our hobbies and pastimes, and is genuinely concerned with the quality of our lives. Ruthie, we love you, and we thank you for your years of friendship, concern, pleasant disposition and humor, and your dedicated service to us. As we move ahead with our lives, we look forward to visiting and working with you downtown for years to come.”
—Jimmy I. Beale IV, Maintenance, IP
To all of our mill members, thank you for the many wonderful memories over the last 69 years. We look forward to serving you at our other convenient locations.
